M&P Asia Co., Ltd. and Miura & Partners will hold free seminars in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya on 8, 10 and 11 December 2026, explaining cross-border data regulations in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.
Against the backdrop of Southeast Asia’s growing digital economy and the increasing use of cross-border data by Japanese companies, the seminar will compare regulations governing the collection, storage, provision to third parties, cross-border transfer and cloud use of personal data in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand. It will explain practical points concerning due diligence, contracts, PMI and the management of local subsidiaries, using case studies. Attendance is free, and participants must register for their chosen venue in Tokyo, Osaka or Nagoya. The registration deadline is noon on 1 December, although registration may close earlier once capacity is reached.
The venues are Otemachi Place in Tokyo, Hilton Plaza West in Osaka and Chunichi Building in Nagoya. The seminars will run from 14:30 to 16:00, with registration opening at 14:00. There is no participation fee, and registration via the URL below is required. The speakers are Inoue Ryoichi (井上 諒一), Head Partner of the Southeast Asia Practice at Miura & Partners and CEO of M&P Asia Co., Ltd., and Sagae Shiori (寒河江 志織), an associate at Miura & Partners.
The programme begins by examining why Southeast Asia and data use are in focus now, then compares the development of data protection laws in each country and practical considerations concerning domestic and international data-use needs. The discussion focuses on 7 issues: types of data, collection, storage, provision to third parties, dealings with authorities, cross-border data transfers and server use. The laws of all 3 countries will be examined through specific case studies.
