Mirai Works Inc. has been commissioned to develop interpreter-guides for the Amami Islands and will conduct 2 days of practical training to develop active guides on Amami Oshima and Okinoerabu Island.
On 15 October 2026, Mirai Works Inc. announced that it had been commissioned by the Amami Islands Wide Area Administrative Association to provide fiscal 2026 training services under the Amami Islands Regional Interpreter-Guide Development Program (skills enhancement training services). The program aims to develop qualified personnel into active guides able to work in practice.
The training will be conducted in collaboration with LIBERTA CO.,LTD. In addition to providing direct instruction in field needs and practical know-how, it will include self-branding lectures to help participants articulate and promote their own strengths. Through 2 days of practical training on Amami Oshima and Okinoerabu Island, the program aims to improve operational capabilities based on the assumed arrival of cruise ships.
Although 184 people have been certified as regional interpreter-guides in the Amami Islands, many have not progressed to employment or securing assignments, making the development of personnel able to work in practice a challenge. The program aims to prevent qualifications from becoming merely nominal and increase the number of people able to create work in the field.
This initiative could become an early model for developing inbound tourism personnel in regional areas and sustainable tourism management. It is positioned as an initiative that will contribute to tourism promotion and the revitalization of the regional economy in the Amami Islands.
