Tokyo stocks continued to decline in the morning session on the 7th as selling spread across semiconductor-related shares. The Nikkei 225 was down ¥644 at the morning close, while the TOPIX edged higher.
In the morning session on the 7th, the Nikkei 225 fell sharply at the morning close on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, while semiconductor-related stocks declined broadly. The Nikkei Stock Average was trading down ¥644.10 from the previous day at ¥65,039.16.
By sector, nonferrous metals, glass and ceramics products, and electric appliances declined, while oil and coal products and wholesale trade advanced. The Standard TOP20 fell after rising in the previous session, while the Growth 250 continued to decline.
As of 10:07 a.m., the Nikkei 225's decline had widened to around ¥600. High-tech stocks, including semiconductors, were the main source of downward pressure, and market participants were quoted as saying that SoftBank Group and Advantest were weighing on the index.
However, more than half of Prime Market stocks rose, and the TOPIX edged higher, prompting some to say that overall market sentiment was not weak.
