Panasonic Holdings announced that it will bring forward the start of full-scale mass production of glass-type perovskite solar cells from its previous schedule, beginning full-scale production at the Nagahama site in April 2029. Early production will begin in September 2026, while the company advances technology development toward mass production at the Nagahama site.
Panasonic Holdings announced that it will bring forward the start of full-scale mass production of glass-type perovskite solar cells, previously scheduled for fiscal 2030, and begin full-scale production in April 2029 at its mass-production technology development site in Nagahama City. Sales of early-production models have already begun, and the company plans to continue preparing its mass-production operations at the Nagahama site.
Early-production models have been produced and sold at the development site in Moriguchi since September 2026, with the company accumulating installation and operational expertise through their adoption by customers. Going forward, it plans to accelerate market development by establishing mass-production technology at the Nagahama site and advancing the technology's deployment in society.
As interest grows in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), including solar cells integrated into windows and building exteriors, the company is highlighting their characteristics as power-generating glass, offering highly flexible designs tailored to installation locations and long-term durability. The technology combines inkjet coating and laser-processing technologies to enhance transparency and design flexibility.
Against the backdrop of government support for energy policy and progress in the technology's deployment in society, the decision to bring forward the technology development and mass-production plan from 2025 has been positioned as part of the project selected for NEDO's Green Innovation Fund Project. Under its technology future vision for society in 2040, Panasonic Holdings says it will contribute to maximizing resource value and expanding the adoption of renewable energy.
