JETRO held a Tanzania Investment Business Seminar at its headquarters in Tokyo on 7 September. Co-hosts included UNDP, the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) under the President’s Office, the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA), and the Embassy of Tanzania in Japan.
Approximately 90 representatives from Japan, including companies in trading, automotive, pharmaceuticals, and logistics, attended. The opening remarks expressed a desire for Tanzania to be recognized as a reliable partner, and identified ICT, manufacturing, agriculture and agro-processing, tourism, energy, the blue economy, and services as priority investment sectors.
The keynote address described Tanzania as a gateway to East Africa and emphasized the importance of looking to expand across the wider African market. It also expressed a desire to learn from the technological capabilities and discipline of Japanese companies. The UNDP Resident Representative in Tanzania cited the production of critical minerals, low-cost electricity, and well-developed infrastructure among Tanzania’s strengths.
The latter part of the seminar featured pitches by Tanzanian companies and a panel discussion. After a method of referring to BRELA information for credit checks on local companies was presented, participating companies offered positive comments during networking after the seminar.
