Long-term delays arose from the preparation stage for the Asian Games, and the organizing committee entered into a sole-source contract with GL events Japan. The contract value is said to be ¥63 billion, but it was later pointed out that individual orders could have cost approximately ¥70 billion. Reports of internal documents reveal the confusion behind the preparations.
GL events Japan, which is handling overall operations for the Asian Games, entered into a sole-source contract with the organizing committee in April 2025. The contract value is said to be ¥63 billion, but the prefectural government explained that a single outsourced contract kept costs down compared with the approximately ¥70 billion that individual orders could have cost.
However, preparations did not proceed as initially planned. Although the scoping work to finalize specifications and costs was originally due to be completed by the end of June 2025, significant delays arose.
The existence of internal documents used within the organizing committee to report to personnel at the site has been noted, and records indicate that completion of the scoping work was delayed.
GL is contracted to handle venue construction and operations and has a track record of work at the World Expo, while lawsuits concerning payments to subcontractors have also been reported.
Confusion has continued to be reported even after the Asian Games opened, and the existence of the internal documents has revealed delays dating back to the preparation stage.
