Toyobo MC provided an 8-cm-thick Breathair animal mattress to Kombu, an 11-year-old male Shiba goat kept at Japan Monkey Centre. The centre approached the company for advice, seeking to reduce the burden on Kombu, who had difficulty standing up and sitting down. Use began on 17 September.
The centre said Kombu initially appeared unfamiliar with the mattress, but later began walking and sitting on it and continues to use it voluntarily. Breathair is also lightweight and drains water well, helping reduce the burden of cleaning.
Breathair is a three-dimensional structure made of elastomer fibers and is used in a wide range of applications, including not only bedding but also animal mattresses and seat cushions. Toyobo MC said it would contribute to improving animals’ quality of life and indicated that it would continue developing high-performance materials.
