A founder from Mitsubishi Corporation moved to San Francisco and, after gaining experience as a fisherman, launched an AI startup for the seafood industry. The co-founder is a former Google engineer, and the business is expanding after the pair met through YC’s founder matching program.
After working at Mitsubishi Corporation, the founder gained hands-on experience in the seafood business, fishing for yellowtail in Kagoshima and Miyazaki. Directly understanding the challenges in the field deepened the founder’s interest in digitising the seafood industry. The founder went on to pursue an MBA at Columbia University before moving to San Francisco with the aim of starting another business in the seafood sector.
The company is currently developing AI software to automate data-entry work, including ordering, receiving and transportation, in the seafood industry. It aims to improve manual communications and increase supply-chain efficiency through data integration.
The co-founder has experience developing products including Gemini at Google, and the pair came together through YC’s co-founder matching program. Going forward, they are targeting large customers such as ABL and considering organisational expansion and accelerated product development.
Leveraging this background, the company envisions building a data platform spanning the seafood industries of Japan and overseas markets. The founder described a long-term vision of improving efficiency across the supply chain, centred on yellowtail, by making market demand and transactions more visible.
