To enhance food safety and reliability, the company manages production based on HACCP. It obtained ISO 22000 certification company-wide in January 2013, obtained FSSC 22000 certification at its head office, head office plant, Seiro Plant, Higashiko Plant, and Hokkaido Plant, and completed ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification at all production sites in June 2024, according to the report.
To enhance the value of its food products, the company calls fish meat protein “fish protein” and has established industry standards and a Fish Protein Mark. It is also expanding its range of reduced-salt and low-fat products, introducing cultivation methods that stabilize the vitamin D content of maitake mushrooms, and adding “Organic Maitake,” which has obtained Organic JAS certification, to its product lineup.
In terms of resource use, the company is expanding products with extended shelf lives and advancing items such as the value-priced satsuma-age “Koban Tempura,” which reduces disposal losses through frozen storage. It is also developing alternatives to marine resources under its Next Seafood initiative and promoting higher recycling rates and plastic reduction through the introduction of circular ECO Trays and trayless packaging, according to the report.
The report introduces initiatives focused on workplace reform and human resources development, including the promotion of IWS and women’s participation in the workforce, as well as obtaining three-star Eruboshi certification and Platinum Kurumin certification. It also states that the extension of reduced-hours childcare leave, as part of the expansion of systems suited to employees’ life stages, has been implemented since July 2023.
As part of its efforts to mitigate global warming, the company switched the Hokkaido Plant to renewable electricity in April 2024 and converted its Niigata Plant to 100% renewable electricity in July 2023, according to the report. It plans to increase its renewable energy ratio in the future by introducing self-consumption solar power generation and an off-site PPA, with the aim of supplying approximately 9% of its required electricity itself.
