A webinar explaining how to assess grid-scale battery storage will be held, using specific examples to explain the difference between kW and kWh by considering output and capacity separately. It will be held online in early October 2026 and is free to attend.
A webinar hosted by Japan Branding Co., Ltd. will explain the fundamentals of properly evaluating grid-scale battery storage. The speaker will provide an explanation from the perspective of a master distributor of battery storage systems, with the aim of deepening understanding of expressions such as entering 20MW/80MWh.
The webinar will explain that kW represents instantaneous power, while kWh represents the amount of energy obtained by integrating that power over time. It will also explain how to avoid misunderstandings such as the claim that 1 million kW of solar power equals one nuclear power plant. Battery storage does not generate energy itself, and losses occur during charging and discharging, which will also be contrasted.
The event is scheduled for 19:00-20:00 in early October 2026 and will be held online, free of charge, with advance registration required. The organizer is Japan Branding Co., Ltd. Applications can be made through the official website or official LINE account. The webinar's main topics are (1) the principle of supply and demand balancing, (2) the meaning of kW and kWh, (3) comparisons using examples, and (4) the relationship with the two-part tariff structure on electricity bills.
Specific examples will include a comparison of the output and capacity of Minamisoma Substation and Minamihayakita Substation, as well as the difference in actual operating rates between solar power and power plants, organizing the factors that determine the characteristics of grid-scale battery storage. The company plans to continue providing similar explanations and information on future webinars.
