A new hot-rolling line under construction at the Nagoya Works was completed on 6 August 2026, and a completion ceremony was held the same day. The investment amounted to approximately ¥300 billion. The line is equipped with a rolling mill boasting one of the world’s highest load-bearing capacities, as well as advanced temperature and rolling-control technologies. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin on 17 August 2026, making completion of the line the company’s first large-scale investment in 40 years.
The new line brings together hot-rolling and quality-control technologies developed over many years, with production capacity of approximately 600 tonnes per year. It is expected to strengthen the Nagoya Works’ role as the region’s mother mill, while enhancing the supply of high-value-added products, including steel sheets for EVs.
The completion ceremony was attended by Nippon Steel’s president, the head of the Nagoya Works and other parties involved. Referring to the company’s founding aspirations and its history, the participants highlighted the technological capabilities and on-site expertise behind the next-generation line. Nippon Steel indicated that it will use the line to develop new products with enhanced strength and workability, with the aim of maintaining and advancing its position as a global steelmaker.
