Hyundai Mobis has begun full-scale operations at a dedicated PE (power electric) system plant in Nováky, Slovakia, strengthening its mass-production capabilities in Europe. The plant can produce 280,000 PE systems annually and is expected to become a core hub for advancing electrification in Europe.
Hyundai Mobis announced that it had started operations at a new plant in Nováky, Slovakia, launching full-scale production of PE systems. The plant's inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of local government officials and others, and is Hyundai Mobis's first dedicated PE system plant in Europe. The site covers an area equivalent to approximately 15 soccer fields and has the capacity to produce 280,000 PE systems annually. This will help expand a supply chain in Europe spanning power supply through to the drivetrain.
The establishment of the Nováky site will raise Hyundai Mobis's presence in a region it regards as a hub for automotive production in Europe. President Lee Kyu-seok (李奎錫) indicated that, through investment and effort, the company aims to establish the PE system plant as a central hub for Europe's electrification and suggested that vehicles equipped with Hyundai Mobis systems could lead the European market.
Against the backdrop of a recovery in Europe's EV market, South Korean automotive and battery companies are stepping up investment in Europe. New-vehicle sales in Europe recorded substantial growth in the first half, while Hyundai Motor plans to begin producing the Europe-specific small EV IONIQ 3 at its plant in Türkiye.
At the same time, the battery materials sector is also shifting more strongly toward Europe. EcoPro BM is proceeding with line modifications at its plant in Hungary, LG Energy Solution is establishing a new production line for 46-series batteries in Poland, and Samsung SDI is modifying production lines at its Hungarian plant to meet customer needs.
