Shimadzu Corporation has begun collaborating with U.S.-based Axio BioPharma Inc. Focusing on AI-driven media optimization, the companies will jointly design and evaluate media compositions, with the aim of improving the efficiency of biopharmaceutical development.
The collaboration will combine Shimadzu Corporation’s CellTune Ver.2 culture optimization support software and media blend kits, which consist of a basal medium and supplements, with Axio’s technologies for antibody expression and evaluation of culture conditions. The AI will propose media compositions and culture-environment conditions.
As part of the joint demonstration, the proposed conditions will be tested and evaluated at Axio’s laboratory, and the results will be fed back into condition design to validate a data-driven, iterative optimization process. The companies will also work with partners in Japan and overseas, with a view to expanding into markets including North America.
The two companies emphasized their policy of assessing the practicality of the media optimization workflow, supporting research and development of biopharmaceuticals and manufacturing-process development, and contributing to growth in global markets.
