Ryohin Keikaku has set a target of reducing GHG emissions from products related to raw material and material production and manufacturing by 30% by the fiscal year ending August 2040, compared with the fiscal year ended August 2021. It also announced initiatives including expanding the use of environmentally friendly materials.
Ryohin Keikaku presented at a briefing a target of reducing, by the fiscal year ending August 2040, Scope 3 emissions per sales revenue from products related to raw material and material production and manufacturing by 30% compared with the fiscal year ended August 2021. Scope 3 emissions account for the majority of the Ryohin Keikaku group's total emissions, making the reduction an initiative covering the entire supply chain.
The company has already announced a target of reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by the fiscal year ending August 2030, compared with the fiscal year ended August 2021. By contrast, the Scope 3 reduction announced this time is to be pursued through collaboration across the entire supply chain, including business partners.
In product development, the company will promote the use of environmentally friendly materials, minimize GHG emissions from the design stage, and improve the efficiency of production processes. For apparel, it has set a target of raising the proportion of environmentally friendly materials used to approximately 90% in the fiscal year ending August 2026 and using such materials for 100% of major textile materials in the fiscal year ending August 2030.
The company explained that collaboration with production partners presents challenges in understanding the current situation and setting targets, as well as issues related to cost burdens, but that it had held repeated discussions and jointly formulated targets according to each company's progress. It said it would focus on improving efficiency across the entire supply chain and demonstrating tangible benefits, rather than imposing burdens on partners.
The briefing also covered logistics efficiency improvements, renewable energy generation by the company's own group, and the resource circulation project ReMUJI. Detailed articles are scheduled to be published separately.
