Swiss food giant Nestlé Thailand is advancing production expansion totaling THB 6.4 billion (approximately ¥32 billion) at the Amata City Rayong Industrial Estate in Rayong province, eastern Thailand, amid rising global demand for pet food. Following approval from the BOI, 2 new facilities, a pet food plant and a pet snack plant, are scheduled to be built.
The new plants are expected to increase their use of domestic raw materials, with domestic materials accounting for 56% of those used for pet food and 88% of those used for snacks. The brands covered are Felix, Pro Plan, Friskies and Purina One, while the raw materials will include chicken, sardines, vegetables, oils and fats, and vitamins.
Nestlé entered the Thai market in 1993. The latest expansion investment is described as part of the company's efforts to create demand for domestic agricultural products, including more than THB 2.9 billion in new investments in 2026. More than 90% of the products from the new plants are expected to be exported to major markets including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
