A survey of 125 people on why they had not transferred the title of their inherited family homes found that complicated procedures were the most common reason, while nearly half completed the title transfer within 1 year.
This survey targeted people who had not transferred the title of their family home for a certain period after inheriting it. The survey was conducted from 1 to 13 October 2026, with 125 valid responses comprising 66 men and 59 women. The survey was conducted by the company itself, and the results were published in ranking format.
The period before completing the title transfer was 48.8% in total for those who took approximately 6 months and those who took 1 year, showing that approximately half proceeded with the procedure within 1 year. However, some cases remained unresolved for 5 years or longer. Under the current rules, the basic requirement is to complete the procedure within 3 years of the date on which the inheritance became known.
The top reason for not transferring the title was that the procedures were complicated, at 36.0%, followed by the cost, at 20.8%. Other leading reasons included not feeling it was necessary to act quickly, lack of time and prioritising other tasks, indicating that the effort, cost and low priority of the process were obstacles.
The most common difficulty caused by putting off the title transfer was collecting documents, cited by 36.0%, followed by discussing the matter with relatives, at 20.0%. In many cases, preparing documents and coordinating among the parties involved were burdensome.
The share of people who knew that inheritance registration had become mandatory was 78.4%, while 20.8% understood the details. Although awareness of the mandatory requirement itself was high, many people did not know the precise conditions concerning the application deadline and administrative fines.
