The total economic impact of Taiwan-based TSMC's expansion into Kyushu, Japan, was estimated at more than ¥13.84 trillion across the 3 prefectures of Kumamoto, Kagoshima and Miyazaki. The impact of investment and production is expected to spread over the 10 years through 2031.
An estimate that Taiwan-based semiconductor giant TSMC's expansion into Kyushu, along with investment and production by related companies, will generate an economic impact in Japan's Kyushu region was released by Kyushu Financial Group. The combined total for the 3 prefectures was reported to be more than ¥13.84 trillion.
The breakdown is approximately ¥10.72 trillion for Kumamoto Prefecture, ¥1.62 trillion for Kagoshima Prefecture and ¥1.5 trillion for Miyazaki Prefecture, with the impact projected over the 10 years through 2031. The estimate for Kumamoto includes TSMC's new plant in Kikuyo and related investment by companies including Sony Group in surrounding areas.
Kyushu Financial Group President Kasahara Yoshihisa (笠原 慶久) emphasized future initiatives, saying that stronger coordination across supply chains spanning the prefectural borders of Kumamoto, Kagoshima and Miyazaki would contribute to the development of southern Kyushu as a whole.
The estimate was issued by Kyushu Financial Group and reported by NHK, the news organization, although the text does not identify an official publication date.
