NVIDIA and Tesla announced trillion-won investments in the same Korean company, Samsung Electro-Mechanics. They will jointly develop AI semiconductor advanced packaging substrate production lines in Sejong City and Busan Metropolitan City.
Global companies NVIDIA and Tesla have decided to invest a combined total of more than 3.7 trillion won in Samsung Electro-Mechanics. NVIDIA has announced plans to add production lines for AI semiconductor advanced packaging substrates in Sejong City and Busan Metropolitan City, with its investment reaching 2.6 trillion won. Tesla, meanwhile, has indicated its intention to invest 1.1 trillion won in expanding its production capacity in Sejong City. Through these investments, the two companies aim to secure long-term substrate supplies.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics is one of the few companies in the world capable of producing both MLCCs (multilayer ceramic capacitors) and FC-BGAs (flip-chip ball grid arrays), and is strengthening its ability to supply high-performance substrates for AI data centers. MLCCs are a symbolic component of growing demand from AI data centers, and their importance is increasing as AI adoption advances.
