SBI Life Insurance has launched a proof of concept (PoC) for an underwriting assessment support system using generative AI, specifically Claude Sonnet 4.6, to improve the quality and productivity of life insurance underwriting assessment operations. Rather than replacing on-site decision-making, the system will support the organization and comparison of information related to underwriting assessments, with the aim of achieving stable and efficient operations.
As part of its operational improvements, the AI will automatically organize and present the results of comparing application information and disclosure details with underwriting criteria. This will reduce the burden on underwriters of collecting and checking information, creating an environment in which they can focus on higher-value comprehensive decision-making. Employees with extensive knowledge of frontline operations will also lead fully in-house development, establishing a structure that enables feedback to be reflected quickly and improves usability and effectiveness.
Looking ahead, the company will consider practical implementation after validating the PoC and promote operational reform using generative AI across the company. It plans to gradually expand the areas in which AI is used, led by the newly established Intelligent Operations Strategy Department.
Through these initiatives, the company aims to improve and stabilize underwriting quality and increase the efficiency of operational management.
