ADR120S subsidiary ADRセラピューティクス has begun a confirmatory study of a treatment using adipose tissue-derived regenerative cells. The study, targeting patients with CLI, is at a Phase III-equivalent stage and represents an important step toward commercialization and insurance coverage.
Based on the results of clinical research led by Nagoya University, the ADRCs-based treatment does not require cell culture and is characterized by its ability to be administered on the same day. The current clinical trial is being conducted to validate its efficacy, and consultation with the PMDA on the trial protocol has also been completed.
Previous clinical trials achieved an amputation avoidance rate of more than 90%, while improvements in quality of life, including reductions in wound ulcers and increased walking distance, were confirmed. The treatment's non-cultured, automated closed-system advantages are viewed as supporting its adoption in clinical settings.
The decision on insurance coverage will depend on the progress of the clinical trial, and commercialization could expand treatment options for CLI patients with underlying conditions such as diabetes. The development is attracting attention as Japanese regenerative medicine moves from the research stage toward practical application.
Additional reporting, including related public relations information and developments at other companies, is awaited, but at present the trial design and evaluation criteria are being finalized ahead of other aspects.
