KDDIスマートドローン obtained a UTM service provider ID from the Civil Aviation Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, becoming Japan’s first certified USP. It plans to begin providing services, including flight coordination using UTM, from December, enabling integration with DIPS2.0.
KDDIスマートドローン announced on 16 September that it had obtained a UTM service provider ID from the Civil Aviation Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. As a certified USP, it will be regarded as an operator responsible for developing and operating UTM systems that allow multiple drones to operate safely and efficiently in the same airspace.
Becoming a certified USP opens the way for integration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Drone Information Platform System (DIPS2.0). It also permits the provision of services using UTM in areas including infrastructure inspections, surveying, disaster prevention and logistics, such as coordinating flight plans, coordinating among operators and visualising airspace restrictions. KDDIスマートドローン is expected to establish a UTM-based flight management framework and expand its application into demonstration projects, including coordinated deliveries.
The company plans to begin providing services from December this year to improve the efficiency of flight coordination required for drone operations and strengthen governance through airspace management.
