Shimadzu Corporation announced its consolidated results for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2027 (April-June). Revenue rose 10% year on year to ¥130.596 billion, operating profit increased 17% to ¥14.264 billion, ordinary profit was ¥18.486 billion, and profit attributable to owners of parent was ¥13.333 billion, indicating strong performance. Revenue reached a record high for a first quarter for the sixth consecutive period, while operating profit reached a record high for the first time in 3 periods.
By segment, the industrial machinery segment drove performance. In particular, TMPs (turbo molecular pumps) for semiconductor manufacturing equipment grew in Japan, Europe, Taiwan and South Korea, generating revenue of ¥20.7 billion and operating profit before amortization of goodwill and other items of ¥3.8 billion. The medical systems segment benefited from new X-ray equipment products, generating revenue of ¥16.9 billion and returning to profitability. The aircraft equipment segment also secured higher revenue and profit. Revenue in the core measuring instruments segment reached ¥80.3 billion, a record high, driven by growth in liquid chromatographs and mass spectrometry systems.
The full-year forecast was revised upward to revenue of ¥620.0 billion, up 11% from the previous fiscal year; operating profit of ¥80.0 billion, up 9%; ordinary profit of ¥81.0 billion, down 2%; and profit attributable to owners of parent of ¥59.0 billion, down 2%. The revision reflects upside in TMP demand and the easing impact of the situation in the Middle East. It also includes the consolidation of the results of Tescan, a Czech electron microscope manufacturer, from the third quarter.
Annual dividends are expected to increase by ¥1 from the previous fiscal year to ¥70. As the first year of the new medium-term management plan, the company indicated that it will focus on achieving its full-year forecast and link this to growth from the second year onward.
