John Ternus (ジョン・テルナス) will become Apple’s CEO effective 1 September 2026, while Tim Cook will continue to be involved in management as chairman of the board. Ternus is a longtime leader in hardware development who has driven product development, including the transition to Apple Silicon.
Apple announced that it has appointed John Ternus (ジョン・テルナス) as its new CEO. From 1 September, Ternus will determine the company’s long-term strategy and priorities as CEO. Tim Cook will not step down, and is expected to remain involved in management as chairman of the board. This could shift the company’s future direction toward a greater focus on product development and technological innovation.
Ternus studied mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and joined Apple in 2001. After rising through the product design team, he became vice president of hardware engineering in 2013 and senior vice president of the division in 2021. Since then, he has directly overseen the hardware development of nearly the entire product portfolio.
Under his leadership, he has been involved in the development of the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods and Apple Vision Pro, and led the Mac’s transition from Intel processors to Apple’s proprietary chips, Apple Silicon. In recent years, he has also made more frequent appearances in presentations, strengthening his profile as a leader in product design and technological innovation.
Ternus’s private life is closely guarded, but he is known to be interested in cars and motorsports. In addition to participating in races, he has enough driving experience for his lap times at Laguna Seca to have attracted attention. This background is seen as aligning with a career focused on product performance and design philosophy.
