The outlook for major economic indicators scheduled for release from 19 to 23 October has been compiled. Price trends and business sentiment in Japan and the US, together with China's GDP trend, will provide clues for foreign exchange.
China's Jul-Sep GDP, due Monday morning the 19th, is forecast at 4.4% y/y and 1.0% q/q. Although economic growth is expected to accelerate slightly, the downturn in the property market and weak personal consumption will be the focus. Attention will be on whether the effects of government stimulus measures and resilient exports will boost growth.
Canada's September CPI, due Monday afternoon the 19th, is expected to be 3.2% y/y and 0.2% m/m. Inflation could reaccelerate against a backdrop of rising energy prices, providing a market focus ahead of the Bank of Canada's policy rate announcement.
Japan's September national CPI, due Friday the 23rd, is forecast at 2.2% headline and 2.2% excluding fresh food on a core basis. Core inflation is expected to accelerate back into the 2% range after slowing in the previous month, with the pass-through from import prices the focus ahead of the Bank of Japan's meeting.
