Rengo, an Osaka-based manufacturer of transport packaging materials, announced that it had provided the National Institute of Polar Research with corrugated cardboard for transporting supplies and ice-core cases for the 68th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition. The donated items are scheduled to be transported to Antarctica aboard the Antarctic research vessel Shirase.
The corrugated cardboard will be used to transport and store research equipment and personal necessities, and is also expected to help expedition members organize their belongings in their quarters. The ice-core cases will be used to store and transport cylindrical ice samples obtained by drilling into ice sheets, one sample per case.
Rengo has continued providing corrugated cardboard since the First Expedition in 1956 and says it will continue its support. The donation is positioned as part of its logistics support for the Antarctic research expedition.
