Subaru has added the S: HEV, equipped with a strong hybrid system, to the Levorg Layback lineup. This road-test article features the top-grade Premium S: HEV EX, priced at ¥4,521,000.
The new S: HEV adopts Crosstrek components and aims to deliver a sportier feel than the conventional gasoline-powered model while keeping development costs down. As part of the engine-related redesign, the bonnet air scoop has been removed.
In terms of exterior design and vehicle stature, the front fascia follows the Crosstrek family, unlike that of the gasoline-powered Levorg Layback. Minimum ground clearance is 180mm, while overall length is 4735mm, making it shorter than the gasoline-powered model.
The interior uses tan and black Nappa leather, while the top-grade Premium S: HEV EX comes standard with a Harman Kardon sound system with 10 speakers. The EV mode switch is positioned on the right side of the steering wheel.
