NTT’s cash and cash equivalents increased by approximately ¥250.804 billion during the half-year. The increase was mainly attributable to a positive contribution from financing activities, while the operating and investing cash flows differed substantially. The period covered was 1 April to 30 September 2026.
NTT stated in its summary of financial results for the second quarter (interim period) of fiscal 2026 that cash and cash equivalents had increased by ¥250.804 billion. The rounded figure was stated as approximately ¥250.8 billion, covering the period from 1 April to 30 September 2026.
The breakdown in the statement of cash flows shows net cash from operating activities of +¥46.362 billion, net cash used in investing activities of -¥1.410334 trillion, net cash from financing activities of +¥1.620021 trillion, and translation differences on cash and cash equivalents of -¥5.245 billion. The total of these figures represents the ¥250.804 billion increase in cash.
The increase in cash did not match the amount of cash generated by operating activities, and the large positive contribution this time came from financing activities. Financing activities include outflows such as repayments, dividends and share buybacks in addition to borrowings, so the figure cannot be interpreted as the amount newly borrowed.
The interpretation of the large negative figure for investing activities depends on how the funds were used. Consolidated operating cash flow also includes changes in loans and deposits in the banking business, so it cannot be read as a measure of the earnings power of the telecommunications business alone.
