Nippon Television Holdings made major video production company KANAMEL a wholly owned subsidiary for ¥48.3 billion, highlighting the core of its “opening up” strategy to move away from reliance on terrestrial broadcasting and strengthen its direct-sales model in global markets.
Nippon Television Holdings decided to make major video production company KANAMEL a wholly owned subsidiary and is making an investment of ¥48.3 billion, one of the largest in the company’s history. This is intended to move the company away from its terrestrial broadcasting-centered earnings structure and strengthen its expansion in global markets, centered on content.
Under its medium-term management plan, “Nippon Television, Opening Up!”, Nippon Television Holdings has set long-term targets of achieving revenue of ¥700 billion and overseas revenue of ¥100 billion by fiscal 2033, positioning the acquisition of KANAMEL as a key component.
Through the acquisition of KANAMEL, Nippon Television Holdings has established a structure for vertical integration from planning and production through overseas expansion. It has incorporated production capabilities, including those in 7 overseas countries, as well as VFX technology, enabling it to deliver high-end content to global markets.
