Lawson announced that it would launch “Single-Ingredient Focus!”, a low-priced product line limited to a single ingredient, along with premium-priced additions. A total of 13 products will go on sale from 21 September, centered on products priced at ¥297 including tax.
Lawson announced on 16 September 2026 that it would begin rolling out a total of 13 products combining “Single-Ingredient Focus!” and “Too Luxurious!” from 21 September. The former limits the ingredients to a single type and emphasizes that its products are up to 50% cheaper than bento boxes of the same size.
As a flagship product, the company highlighted “Single-Ingredient Focus! Rice-Boosting Bodatko (Salted Salmon),” which will be offered at ¥297 including tax. It is a literal single-ingredient-focused product, consisting of salty salmon, a preserved food from Akita Prefecture, placed on rice.
The lineup will also include a ¥397 product in which the entire surface of the rice is covered with teriyaki sausage, as well as a ¥297 product topped exclusively with grilled corn. This creates a lineup that promotes both a low-price strategy and premium-priced products at the same time.
While putting affordability front and center, Lawson is emphasizing an “subtractive” design not merely by reducing portion sizes, but by highlighting the fact that each product contains only a single ingredient. Amid competition in the convenience-store market, attention will focus on how the company assesses the potential for higher average spending per customer and fluctuations in customer numbers.
