MIKUNI CORPORATION is taking on the challenge of potentially producing reproduction parts for the classic Mazda RX-7. Following consideration of suppliers' circumstances and internal reforms, the possibility of reopening sales of the parts is being explored, and developments involving the parties concerned have been reported at events including the Haruna Rotary Meeting.
Mazda approached its supplier MIKUNI CORPORATION about reproducing an important part for the Mazda RX-7 (FC3S), which had been unavailable for many years. However, MIKUNI CORPORATION initially concluded that the project would be difficult because of the aging development structure, the difficulty of estimating production volumes, and the burden of inventory management.
Even so, MIKUNI CORPORATION had an aftermarket parts transformation project aimed at reforming its replacement-parts operations, and efforts were under way to resolve longstanding inventory-management issues. Recognition grew that reopening sales could become possible if the company could work with the OEM to meet customer demand.
After internal approval was granted in May 2026 and the start of development studies was announced at the Haruna Rotary Meeting, interest among rotary fans increased. Establishing a supply structure involving multiple suppliers while maintaining OEM quality has become a realistic possibility.
With the employee who had carried responsibility for passing on technical expertise at the peak now the last one remaining, MIKUNI CORPORATION is advancing reforms to pass on its inventory and design know-how while assessing the possibility of reselling metering pumps for later FD3S models and pumps for the RX-8.
