Daiichi Kigenso Kagaku Kogyo Co., Ltd. announced that it had established domestic manufacturing technology for hafnium, would begin providing samples by the end of 2026, and was targeting mass production in 2028. It also disclosed plans to bring zirconium intermediates manufactured at its facility in Vietnam into Japan and separate and purify Hf domestically through solvent extraction.
As a new development in the domestic production of semiconductor materials, Daiichi Kigenso Kagaku Kogyo Co., Ltd. announced that it had established domestic manufacturing technology for hafnium. The company plans to begin providing samples by the end of 2026 and is targeting mass production in 2028, with a policy of strengthening the domestic supply chain by drawing on its accumulated expertise in zirconium.
The company says it will bring zirconium intermediates manufactured at its facility in Vietnam into Japan and establish technology for separating and purifying Hf in Japan through solvent extraction. This is expected to improve the efficiency of raw-material supply as domestic production expands.
The main application is hafnium oxide used in the high-k gate dielectric films of advanced logic semiconductors. Its use as an ALD material is expected to grow as semiconductor miniaturization advances.
In terms of the market reaction, Daiichi Kigenso Kagaku Kogyo shares hit the daily price limit on buy orders on the 26th, the day after the announcement. The impact is expected to extend beyond materials to related fields, including precursors such as TDMAH, high-purity gases and chemicals, equipment, and logistics.
