A seminar in Edmonton introduced the relationship between Japan and Alberta and initiatives in the clean technology sector. It was explained that Alberta is a global leader in clean technology research and development, operations and project execution capabilities, and that Japan is an important trading partner for Alberta.
Visits to Industrial Heartland and other sites introduced initiatives to advance decarbonization while using oil and gas infrastructure, as well as efforts to create an environment that makes it easier for large emitters to use CCS. Information was also provided that hydrogen production in the area, where hydrogen production and CCS projects are concentrated, exceeds 800 tonnes per day.
