Oji Holdings CFO Oshima (大島) pointed out that the synergies from domestic restructuring are difficult to see, highlighting the substance of a strategy focused on calmly assessing growth and exits rather than domestic restructuring.
The company is increasing investment in overseas pulp operations and paperboard businesses for packaging, while transforming its business portfolio beyond the paper and pulp sectors and the traditional scope of papermaking. Against the backdrop of the global shift away from plastics and growing environmental awareness, it is positioning sustainable packaging as a strategic growth area and strengthening its supply chain by bringing into the group companies in Europe involved in processing liquid paper containers and manufacturing filling machinery.
In 2026, the company acquired a European biorefinery company and indicated a policy of developing its woody biomass business as a new core business. Through these initiatives, it is emphasising its intention to explore the value of the forest resources that underpin its papermaking business and translate that value into commercial opportunities.
