A photo of Shandong Airlines' business-class meal on a flight departing from Osaka has received more than 2.4 million views. Comments described the meal as reflecting local food culture, including a huge bread-like item and a set-meal-style selection featuring wheat-based dishes.
Shandong Airlines' in-flight meal has attracted attention on a flight departing from Kansai International Airport in Osaka, travelling to Chongqing via Jinan. The post was made by 42-year-old Doko ni demo iku Dosukoi, who runs a travel-focused YouTube channel, and included an explanation of the in-flight meal photographs.
The photograph showed a large bread-like item on the left, prompting comments asking whether it was a wallet. Dosukoi said it looked like bread, but that when he tried it, it contained a filling resembling thinly sliced ham.
The bread was identified as a Danish-style item known as a Shanhang burger. The photograph also showed a dish resembling braised pork. These dishes used substantial amounts of wheat flour and formed a combination unlike the side dishes generally associated with in-flight meals.
The flight departed from Kansai International Airport, travelled via Jinan and was bound for Chongqing. Against this travel background, the traveller expressed interest in the way local food culture was reflected in the in-flight meal. The poster described the experience of craving Japanese food despite having only just left Japan.
