Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) has developed an authenticity verification system combining a Lippmann hologram with smartphone authentication and will unveil it for the first time at the Intellectual Property Fair being held at Tokyo Big Sight from 16 to 18 September.
Dai Nippon Printing has developed an authenticity verification system using labels that combine a 2D code and a Lippmann hologram. Consumers can use a smartphone to confirm a product’s authenticity by combining the scanned 2D code with the hologram’s optical characteristics.
Verification is completed simply by photographing the hologram in a web browser, without requiring a dedicated app or scanning device. The system uses Lippmann holograms, which offer strong visual appeal and high resistance to counterfeiting.
DNP says it provides an end-to-end service covering hologram design and manufacturing, label converting, system development, and the management and analysis of verification data, supporting more efficient brand protection and anti-counterfeiting measures.
The exhibition will feature a range of products and technologies, including brand protection solutions and packaging with security features. DNP will showcase anti-counterfeiting technologies that combine techniques such as printing microtext concealed in flexible packaging and paperboard packaging with special inks that change color.
Looking ahead, DNP plans to conduct testing and develop functions for practical implementation, including visualizing illicit distribution and analyzing distribution data using verification data.
