Rohto Pharmaceutical announced research demonstrating the potential of exosome-like nanovesicles derived from the Okinawan microalga Pavlova as a skincare ingredient and received the JSEV Encouragement Award for the research. The content of the poster presentation at APSEV2026/JSEV2026 is reported.
A study that purified exosome-like nanovesicles derived from the Okinawan microalga Pavlova from culture supernatant and investigated their potential for use on skin was presented at APSEV2026/JSEV2026 and received the JSEV Encouragement Award.
The lipid composition and particle stability of the exosome-like nanovesicles derived from Pavlova were evaluated, and their uptake by skin cells was confirmed. The study also suggested functions including promotion of epidermal barrier formation, suppression of inflammation, and improvement in aging markers in dermal cells.
The presentation was made at APSEV2026/JSEV2026, held in Tokyo, and the research aims to explore the potential of algae, a regional resource, as a new skincare ingredient.
