マーキュリアホールディングス, En Growth Fund, and 伊藤忠商事 announced an investment in CapitalShip Co., Ltd., the holding company of スマートテクノロジーズ＆リソーシーズ, a major domestic tax-free shopping system provider. The investment aims to strengthen the holding structure through CapitalShip Co., Ltd.
マーキュリアホールディングス (MHD), En Growth Fund, and 伊藤忠商事 jointly invested in CapitalShip Co., Ltd., the holding company of スマートテクノロジーズ＆リソーシーズ株式会社, a major domestic tax-free shopping system provider. Through the investment, the three parties aim to further strengthen スマートテクノロジーズ' business platform by utilizing their respective customer bases, networks, and expertise in payments and financial services. The investment comes against a backdrop of growth in the number of visitors to Japan and revisions to the tax-free shopping system.
Against the backdrop of inbound market growth, スマートテクノロジーズ provides SmartDetax, which supports operational efficiency at tax-free shops, and JPrefund, which provides tax refunds. The services have been adopted by more than 2,500 retail operators. The company has also completed development of a refund system compatible with the new system scheduled for November 2026, and services using the refund model have already begun at some participating merchants.
伊藤忠商事 entered into a business alliance agreement with スマートテクノロジーズ in January 2026 and has been pursuing joint development of merchant accounts and operational support for merchants in cooperation with BellSystem24, which handles the company's BPO business. Through this investment, the 伊藤忠 Group and MHD Group aim to combine their respective customer touchpoints and expertise in payments and financial services to create new business opportunities.
