At the public event Tomotomo Festa 2026, SSP exhibited a motorcycle fitted with stabiliser wheels that can be operated by people with disabilities. The vehicle’s distinguishing feature is a mechanism that deploys the stabiliser wheels when starting and stopping to support the motorcycle.
SSP (Side Stand Project), a public interest incorporated association, is exhibiting at Tomotomo Festa 2026, held in Tokyo’s Marunouchi district from 9 to 10 October, a motorcycle designed to be operated by people with disabilities. The motorcycle is equipped with stabiliser wheels to prevent falls, which deploy when starting or just before stopping to support the vehicle.
SSP conducts activities aimed at supporting motorcycle operation by people with lower-limb disabilities, including wheelchair users and people who use artificial arms or legs, and provides opportunities to experience riding. Established in September 2019, the organisation has expanded its activities by holding experience-riding events on closed courses, exhibiting at events and recruiting volunteers.
Tomotomo Festa is organised by the Cabinet Office and an executive committee as an event providing a place everyone can enjoy regardless of disability status. SSP’s exhibit is part of the “Inclusive Motorcycle Exhibition” in the “Intersection of Sports & Wellness” area and is presented as part of an initiative promoting experiences of an inclusive society.
On 17 October, “Let’s Do It!! Hakone Turnpike 2026” is scheduled to be held at Anest Iwata Hakone Turnpike in Kanagawa Prefecture. The Hakone Turnpike will be reserved for the event, in which people with disabilities will take on the challenge of riding motorcycles.
