Hong Kong-based RedotPay officially announced that it had acquired Japan-based cryptocurrency exchange BTC Box. Existing services for the Japanese market will be suspended or restricted in stages, while preparations are under way to provide services in Japan through BTC Box.
RedotPay Group disclosed in an official announcement updated on 20 October that it had acquired BTC Box, a Japanese crypto-asset exchange service provider. It is preparing to provide services compliant with Japanese law to users in Japan through BTC Box and will continue to provide financial and technical support.
The group explained that its existing services for residents of Japan did not meet current legal and regulatory requirements, and suspended new member registrations in Japan and distribution of its app. Existing services for residents of Japan will also be restricted in stages and ultimately discontinued.
BTC Box was founded in 2014 and registered as a crypto-asset exchange service provider in 2017. The exchange operated by BTC Box suspended all services on 29 January 2026 following an incident in which materials including personal information could have been viewed by a third party.
Specific details of the acquisition price, ownership stake, and acquisition date have not been disclosed. The acquisition is said to be intended to limit the impact on users in Japan, with BTC Box's operating track record and team structure cited as the basis for the transition.
