A community development vision for the YNK area in front of Tokyo Station has been announced. Centred on creating a city that attracts people and investment from around the world, it sets out four commitments, including creating places to belong, preserving refined connections and sharing a distinctly Japanese discerning eye with the world.
An overview of the YNK Area Community Development Vision was presented, explaining the policy of creating a new urban vision called Junkan City. It depicts a future of creative circulation in which economic activity enriches the city's culture and the appeal of its culture brings in further vitality.
Emphasis was placed on attracting people and investment from around the world. Improved transport accessibility and continued redevelopment are expected to support the area's development as a business centre. At the same time, stronger ties with the rest of the world, including attracting overseas companies, are considered necessary.
The vision aims to create a city where people feel they have a place of their own. It calls for connected, comfortable spaces through measures such as removing roads and converting them into pedestrian promenades, while making use of alleys and historic scenery.
Efforts to preserve refined connections are considered important. The vision calls for maintaining the area's appeal by preserving and developing neighbourhood associations, which are central to local government, as well as traditional events and cultural resources. It also calls for sharing a distinctly Japanese discerning eye with the world.
