LG Electronics announced plans to invest KRW 150 billion in total to build a new chiller plant for AI data centers in Virginia, United States, and expand and upgrade its domestic plants in Pyeongtaek and Changwon.
The US plant will be built in Virginia with a total floor area of 32,000 sq m and a site area of approximately 170,000 sq m, with production of air-cooled chillers for AI data centers scheduled to begin in the first half of next year.
Virginia is known as "Data Center Valley" because of its concentration of data centers. Local production is intended to ensure a stable supply of chillers to customers in North America and shorten delivery times. In the data center market, power demand is expected to grow to approximately 420 GW by 2030, with approximately 60% of that demand concentrated in North America.
In South Korea, the company plans to build new air-cooled chiller production lines at its Pyeongtaek and Changwon plants and gradually introduce a "flow line" production method that allows multiple production lines to operate simultaneously. Implementation is scheduled to progress through the end of this year.
LG Electronics is expanding its "chip-to-chiller" business, which includes not only chillers but also coolant distribution units and cold plates, and is strengthening thermal management solutions for entire data centers under its One LG strategy.
