Following the reissue of “Gakken’s Learning” for the first time in 16 years, the Gakken Group launched the new “Gakken’s Science and Learning Play” series. The first product is a Tyrannosaurus extra-large skeletal model with a life-size poster, and reservations are now open. The product is scheduled for release on 30 November 2026.
Gakken, a subsidiary of Gakken Holdings, announced the launch of the new “Gakken’s Science and Learning Play” series following two reissues, designing experiences that help children deepen their learning while playing hands-on. The series combines kits, guidebooks and an online community, and will be developed as an entry-level offering that connects learning and play. The title of the commemorative first product is “Tyrannosaurus Extra-Large Skeletal Model,” featuring a full-scale skeletal model approximately 40 cm in length.
The first product is a skeletal model based on the dinosaur theme, which has been popular for many years and has attracted particularly strong interest. The guidebook is supervised by Professor Yoshitsugu Kobayashi (小林快次) of the Hokkaido University Museum, while the model prototype is produced by Kazunari Araki (荒木一成). The model is designed to be assembled simply by fitting the parts together, without screws or adhesive, providing a hands-on way to learn about the structure of a dinosaur’s body.
A life-size poster is also included, featuring part of a Tyrannosaurus skull in A1 size. It is designed to help children appreciate its size by comparing it with their own faces and bodies. The guidebook also covers the latest research and introduces ideas for inquiry-based and independent study.
