Nippon Electric Glass's special subsidiary, Denki Glass Universal Support, received the Encouragement Award for the Chairperson's Award in the Good Examples of Workplace Improvements for the Employment of People with Disabilities. It was recognised for supporting employees with disabilities in learning their duties through video manuals created by an employee with a hearing impairment.
Denki Glass Universal Support, a special subsidiary of Nippon Electric Glass, received the Encouragement Award for the Chairperson's Award under the Japan Organization for Employment of the Elderly, Persons with Disabilities and Job Seekers' (JEED) FY2026 Good Examples of Workplace Improvements for the Employment of People with Disabilities. The application theme was “Use of digital technology,” and applications were received from 87 establishments nationwide. The awards ceremony was held at the Shiga Prefectural Government Office on 18 September.
The initiative centred on an employee with a hearing impairment creating video manuals on an iPad to instruct new graduates. The videos show work processes through photographs and were designed so that anyone could understand them without relying on audio. They were created to clearly explain how to use tools and perform detailed movements. This was intended to supplement communication between instructors and trainees.
Following implementation, the time required for employees to learn their tasks was shortened and work errors decreased. Variations in instruction were eliminated, work standardisation progressed, and the initiative also led to evaluations such as promotions in grade for employees serving as instructors. The company said it would continue promoting the employment of people with disabilities and developing a workplace where individuals can demonstrate their abilities.
Regarding the award, the company indicated that it would continue working to improve internal skills and promote the employment of people with disabilities.
