Japan's industrial flooring market is seeing a sharp increase in the adoption of highly smooth flooring for clean rooms as capital investment related to semiconductors and automobiles expands. Against a backdrop of persistently high construction costs and a shortage of skilled workers, demand is also increasing for resin-based flooring that can shorten installation periods and reduce maintenance. Pilot installations of smart flooring designed to enable data connectivity through sensors beneath the floor are also progressing.
Demand for industrial flooring in Japan is underpinned by capital investment in advanced industries. In particular, the construction and expansion of large semiconductor plants in Kumamoto and Hokkaido are driving adoption of flooring for clean rooms. Selection of flooring with highly smooth surfaces and antistatic properties is increasing, while materials that shorten installation periods and reduce maintenance are attracting attention amid cost pressures. In addition, as digitalization advances, pilot installations of smart flooring are progressing, using embedded floor sensors to visualize the movements of transport robots and people. Evaluation criteria now include data connectivity and low environmental impact, in addition to load durability.
Product types include PVC flooring, wood flooring, stone flooring and other products. Each type is used in settings such as food production, pharmaceuticals and assembly lines according to characteristics including chemical resistance, water resistance, appearance and durability.
