カワチ薬品, a major drugstore operator, reported consolidated results for April–September 2026, with net profit down 9% year on year to ¥2.2 billion. Seasonal products performed poorly because of unseasonable summer weather.
Poor summer sales affected revenue from seasonal products such as beverages, leaving revenue at ¥144.1 billion, broadly unchanged from the previous period. Operating profit fell 6% year on year to ¥3.0 billion, making only a limited contribution to earnings.
During the period, the company reviewed the selling prices of approximately 5,400 items as an inflation-relief measure and encouraged store visits and increased basket sizes by distributing coupons through its app. It also opened 1 new store in Tochigi Prefecture and closed a total of 3 stores in Miyagi, Ibaraki and Chiba prefectures, reducing the store count to 384.
Overall, weather-related factors and the sales mix, which was concentrated in seasonal products, affected results, and profitability may not have improved. Future attention will focus on the recovery of earning power through new store openings and the reorganisation of the store network.
