Sekisui Kasei Co., Ltd. has developed a low-density grade of its FOAMAC HR rigid acrylic foam, achieving approximately 50% weight reduction versus the conventional grade, with applications expanding in mobility-related fields in Japan and overseas.
Sekisui Kasei Co., Ltd. announced on 17 September 2026 that it had expanded the FOAMAC HR rigid acrylic foam product lineup by developing a low-density grade. The new grade achieves approximately 50% weight reduction versus the conventional grade, enhancing its suitability as a foam core material for CFPR composite materials.
With a view to growth in the mobility sector, the company established a technology that reduces weight while maintaining the foam core material’s rigidity, heat resistance and processability. Mechanical properties that withstand aerodynamic loads and vibration are particularly important in motorsports applications, and the low-density grade addresses these requirements.
In the latest testing, the material was selected as the foam core material for the CFPRP front hood panel of the GAINER TANAX Z, which competes in the SUPER GT GT300 class, one of Japan’s leading racing series. This is intended to achieve both vehicle weight reduction and structural performance.
