OKI Crosstek installed an ultra-lightweight flexible solar power system at 6 poultry houses operated by Izumo Farm and began operating it in September. Expected power generation and CO2 reductions have also been disclosed.
OKI Crosstek, part of the OKI Electric Industry group, installed an ultra-lightweight flexible solar power generation system on the roofs of 6 existing poultry houses operated by Izumo Farm in Yamaguchi City, began operating it in September, and announced the installation on 30 September, according to reports.
The system uses monocrystalline silicon solar cells. Each panel measures 1850 mm × 1158 mm × 2 mm, has an output of 430 W, a conversion efficiency of 22.2%, and a weight of 5.2 kg, with a load per unit area of approximately 2.5 kg/m2. The panels are reportedly manufactured in China.
The installation at the poultry houses was achieved by combining adhesive installation technology that limits the load on the roofs with design and construction expertise tailored to site conditions. This is said to have kept within load-bearing constraints while limiting noise and vibration during construction.
The total output of the system installed at the poultry houses is 451 kW, with expected annual power generation of approximately 492,000 kWh and annual CO2 emissions reductions of approximately 225 tonnes. These figures are equivalent to approximately one-quarter of the annual electricity consumption and CO2 emissions of Izumo Farm’s poultry operations.
OKI Crosstek has previously installed systems at repair centers and branch offices. It has stated that it plans to use this installation as a model case and expand into poultry farms, livestock buildings, factories, warehouses, and other facilities subject to load-bearing or construction constraints.
