Mobicom, KDDI's consolidated subsidiary in Mongolia, disclosed the circumstances surrounding a grassland fire that occurred in the Numrug Nature Reserve. The account centers on the explanation that, after 4G infrastructure and fiber-optic cable had been deployed, the team entered the area at the request of a border checkpoint, where a fire broke out during operations and spread.
Mobicom Corporation explained the circumstances surrounding the grassland fire. The fire occurred on 8 October 2026 in the Numrug Nature Reserve, and approximately 80% of the area is reported to have burned. Dry grass attached to a vehicle is believed to have caused the fire, and firefighting and fire-spreading prevention activities were conducted at the site.
The team entered the area to assess 4G quality. The 4G and fiber-optic infrastructure was reportedly developed as an investment project at the request of the Border Port Authority. The entry permit was reportedly issued by the General Authority for Border Protection.
A total of 7 Mobicom executives and employees traveled to the site in 2 company-owned vehicles. They stopped to remove dry grass, and the fire broke out while they were returning from the assignment.
Mobicom stated that it would fulfill its obligations and responsibilities under applicable laws and regulations and decisions of the relevant authorities, and indicated that it would cooperate with the investigation.
