The notable stock surged after the announcement of a share buyback of up to ¥2.5 billion. The TSE Prime Market was generally active, partly reflecting a reaction to the Nikkei 225’s gradual rise.
The Nikkei 225 fell ¥647.26 from the previous day to close at ¥68,309.46 on 2 October, with the decline at one point exceeding ¥800 during trading. While a wait-and-see mood spread in the afternoon ahead of the release of U.S. employment data, Advantest’s record high since listing and Fujikura’s firmness supported the market’s downside.
Trading volume on the TSE Prime Market was 2.511 billion shares and trading value was ¥8.297870 trillion, both down from the previous day. By sector, advancers and decliners were mixed. Nonferrous metals, mining, oil and coal products, and marine transportation rose, while securities, real estate, and information and communications declined.
Among individual stocks, 51 Nikkei 225 constituents rose, 173 fell and 1 was unchanged. Resonac Holdings led gainers on the TSE Prime Market, followed by Ceres and Furukawa Electric. Decliners included Members, Tomen Devices and NOK Group.
