The government said it would assess the impact in coordination with the companies concerned and take steps to prevent China’s anti-dumping measures on specialty gases made in Japan and used in semiconductor manufacturing from having an undue impact on business activities. It also reiterated its call for the withdrawal of China’s strengthened export controls on dual-use goods, saying restrictions targeting Japan run counter to international practice.
At a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara Minoru (木原稔) said that, regarding the provisional anti-dumping measures China had announced against specialty gases made in Japan and used in semiconductor manufacturing, the government would closely coordinate with the Japanese companies concerned, thoroughly assess the status of the investigation and its impact, and respond appropriately to prevent any undue impact on their business activities.
He also reiterated that Japan had requested the withdrawal of China’s strengthened export controls, saying that export restrictions on dual-use items targeting Japan run counter to international practice.
The government also said it would monitor the situation in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure that China’s measures do not have an excessive impact on Japanese companies’ operations.
